They initially made a 2.5L. They eventually came out with the Mercruiser 3.0L. This has a 4" bore and 3.6" stroke on a "Super Duty" crank. It's essentially an Iron Duke stroker. 1983 2.5 was an AMC built 2.5 with a chevy v-6 (2.8 liter) chevy bolt pattern on the trans end. The 1980-1982 2.5 liter was in fact an "Iron duke" (tech 4) gm built engine. OP may have either , being s old, chance of engine swap etcSince the bell housing would bolt up. Need to dig up some casting numbers
