Complaints about the '36 and '37 Zephyr's tendency to overheat were pouring in to Ford. This engine had problems inherent in its design and execution anyway, including rough running characteristic thanks to a 75° angle between the cylinder banks (60° is optimal for a V12) as well as hot spots due to the way the exhaust ports had to snake their way past cooling passages.

The 1936 Lincoln-Zephyr was available as a four-door Sedan ($1320/12,272 sold); and two-door Sedan ($1275/1,114). In addition, 908 right-hand drive four-door Sedans were sold. A two-speed Columbia rear axle was optional.
