To me this poem is very emotional for two main reasons, the first being that generally two-headed calves won't survive til the morning, hence why the farm boys will "wrap his body in newspaper" and although the calf's life is a short one, it is one it is one of a "perfect summer evening" where all he receives is love from his mother.
