#1 I recently noticed this number (17156) stamped on the front left of the A-pillar. It's not a plate, its stamped directly into the body. Can anyone tell me what this # relates to? #1 How can I find more information about my e9? BMW Classic maintains records on all the coupes produced, so if you can get the VIN you can email them and they can tell you a bit about the car. They can usually tell you when the car was made, when it was delivered to the exporter, what kind it originally was, (i/L/carbed) and the original color.

#1 · Nov 17, 2014 (Edited by Moderator) I was bored just now, so I spent a few minutes coding a simple little thing to produce an Excel spreadsheet that could be interesting to some people. Columns - BMW type code (digits 4-7 of the VIN). Rows - months. So you can see production volume broken down by month and type code.
