The heyday of fins lasted from 1956 through 1961. Though many models began appearing with lower fins after 1957, two marques, in particular, kept up the competition for ever-higher tailfins. For Cadillac, the peak came in 1959, but the Imperial tailfins didn't hit their peak until 1961.
