It does make me feel a bit better that Ultima only remanufacture starters and alternators, whereas Duralast is just an umbrella corporation for a bunch of no-name rebuilders with basically nothing on the line. The only time I suggest going Duralast is with steering boxes.

I've called around to the local auto parts places and nobody can get an OEM 150 amp Bosch unit, but I can get either an Altima or Duralast remanufactured one for $245. #1 Other day, i stopped at autozone, and bought anew duralast alternator for my 95 neon. Did some research, and not many think highly at all, of autozone. Dug even more, and it seems remanufactured alts. dont get a good say either. Most seem to think, dealer OEM is the way to go. NAPA sells new alternators as well.

Anyone had to replace your starter yet? I have an 04' Duramax. 99,200miles. I don't think thats covered under warranty right? So, Autozone sells their duralast reman for $173. O'reilly's sells their Ultima reman for $143. I've had bad luck with the ultimas on two previous vehicles.

The available alternators are a Carquest alternator from Advance Auto Parts or Duralast unit from Autozone. What I'm finding, however, is a lack of information on what I should replace it with. I don't need a fancy 300 Amp alternator either, the stock 130A works just fine for my needs. My options seem to be the following From AutoZone: Duralast Gold "new" Duralast reman; ValuCraft reman; From O'Reilly. BesTest reman; Ultima reman; Ultima Select "new"

Much cheaper than the ones from O'Reilly's, Autozone and Napa. I talked to a local Subaru-only shop, and they said they have had good luck with the Subaru reman. units.
