7.1k LocationMissouri Posted January 30, 2011 Carbed 2.8 ---> [2.8 & 3.1] ---> [3100 & 3400] ----> [3500 & 3900] LIMGs aren't so much an issue because coolant no longer flows through them. Head gaskets shouldn't be an issue, they fixed that issue early. The problem is with the crossover leaking coolant.

GM stated the engine was made to accomodate future increases in displacement.. The 3900 heads are designed after the LS1 heads, the rocker arms look identical although I suspect the bolts for the LS1 might be a little thicker. Since the pistons are interchangeable bore wise, if the rockers are also that would be another performance hurdle.

Buffalo, NY Jan 2, 2018 #1 Is there anything horrible about this "High-value 3900" 3.9L series engine? I'm not scared of these "old" pushrod GM V6s LOL. Reason I ask is, in the not so distant future one of my kids will be driving and we'll eventyally have the need for another car.

The 3900 V6 engine has 60-degree overhead valves. The engine has two valves per cylinder. The 3900 V6 also features dual variable valve timing. #2 · Nov 16, 2004 3.9 is a 60* V6 based off the long series of V6's dating back to the 70's. But dont confuse that with them being the same engine, just with more displacement. The 3.9 is a pushrod or OHV engine, and does have the ability to go DoD. The 3.8 is based of a 90* Buick V8.

The 3800 uses equal bore centers AND it is wider, taller, and heavier than the 3900 despite both having IRON blocks. The 3900 would still be lighter if both had IRON heads but it doesn't it has aluminum heads. The 3800 crybabies need to get over the fact that GM has moved on beyond their old outdated engine.

#1 What do you guys think of the LZ9 3.9 V6? 02-04-2012, 04:38 AM It puts out 240hp and 240tq. It gives out over 90% tq from 1500-3500rpm. This engine was put on a 3rd gen Camaro and it did mid to high 13. Of course it did have some supporting mods to help that, but it was all stock motor. Tags: None vanbibber Im probably Batman
