The research I did concluded with this: IF you upgrade a 7.5, go with 28 or 30 spline Axles. IF you're going to push 400 or more TQ/HP, DON'T use the 7.5. With that being said, GM put 7.5" 10 bolt rear end in the G-body platform and everything, except for the '84-'87 Buick Turbo Regals (Grand Nationals) and the '84-'87 Olds Cutlass 442. These came with an 8.5" 10 bolt rear end. The issue with the 7.5" 10 bolt rear end is that it isn't made to withstand the power of a 300hp+ motor.

There was a guy on LS1tech by the name of GMmuscle and he ran 10.10@134mph with 2.73 gears in the stock 7.5 10bolt. I was amazed but when u think about it, the 2.73 has a bigger pinion (stronger), less wheelspin on n2o and with a 4l60e 3.06 first gear, 26" tall slicks the ratio is ok for n2o. Later.
