The P-51 was designed with sleek aerodynamics and a range of 1,650 miles, making it perfect for escort missions. In contrast, the P-47 was heavier and less maneuverable, but it could hold more bombs and had a shorter range of only 850 miles. Additionally, the P-51 was known for its effectiveness in dog fights due to its speed and agility, while.

By Sam McGowan. Since the end of World War II, the aviation press has made the North American P-51 Mustang into the superstar Allied fighter of the war. In reality, however, the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt aircraft was the most widely used U.S.-built fighter, and in many respects it was the most capable.

Why not go for the Freewing P-51? It's just a bit more expensive ($280 PNP). is significantly larger, has LEDs and sequenced gear doors, retracting tail wheel, flies on 4S 3600s that're still pretty inexpensive.

Also for me it is quicker to drop the battery in and get it flying. The paint on the P-47 is also more durable. The P-51 is better in the grass on takeoffs as the P-47 has a tendency to want to nose over at the very start until it gets some power on to get it rolling.

Two of the best fighter planes produced by the US during World War II was the P-47 Thunderbolt and the P-51 Mustang. Both fighters were highly capable, fast, and could engage with the best enemy fighter planes of Germany and Japan. However, there were many differences between the two aircraft which makes the P-47 Thunderbolt Vs P-51 Mustang comparison even more fascinating. Such a head-to-head.

The P-47 began the destruction of the Luftwaffe, the P-51D would complete the job. But without the P-51B air war might well have been lost. The P-47 Thunderbolt had played a key role in the war of attrition waged against the Luftwaffe, but its limited range meant that industrial sites producing major components for the German war machine were beyond the range of fighter escort.

It honestly depends. In a "classic" air duel the P-51 has huge advantages in turn radius and energy retention, however the P-47 has a superior dive speed and is honestly a better BnZ plane due to its superior zoom climbing. That said, neither of these planes is the type you should be taking "fair" fights in anyway.

P51 vs P47

The P-47 sits higher of the ground than the P-51 does, whilst also being longer in length as well as having a much wider wingspan. Due to this, the P-47 is also the heavier aircraft. Part of this extra weight is also due to the P-47's ability to carry almost twice as many bombs as the P-51.
