The Pontiac GTO first became available for the 1964 model year. The 389 V8 produced 325 horsepower, and the package added a dual exhaust, a four-barrel carburetor, a three-speed manual with a Hurst shifter and an upgraded suspension. Pontiac fit wider wheels and gave the car exclusive GTO badging.
